Connie Georgatos
(No paywall)

THE CAMPAIGNS TO END homelessness must be relentless. It is up to us to make governments respond to the will of the people. Homelessness Australia operates on a voluntary basis – credit to them – and has not employed personnel. (Independent Australia)

Instead of Eviction, Landlords and Tenants Talk It Out

Emily Nonko
(No paywall)

In Philadelphia, face-to-face mediated chats help both parties get what they need. ... Before Janaya Lewinski leads a mediation session as part of Philadelphia’s Eviction Diversion Program, she wants to know as much as possible about the tenant, the details of their living situation and why they’ve fallen behind on rent. Are there underlying issues with the landlord, like a bathroom that’s long needed repairs? Had they been struggling to cover a rent increase, or has an emergency derailed their ability to pay? Minister says housing agency ‘mistaken’ if they think he’ll do their bidding for Waterloo

Angus Thompson and Megan Gorrey
The Sydney Morning Herald (Paywall)

NSW Planning Minister Rob Stokes says the City of Sydney’s plan to redevelop the Waterloo public housing estate is superior to the one originally put forward by the state government agency overseeing it and the latter is mistaken if they believe they will get what they want. But he also said the council failed to reach a conclusion in a dispute with Land and Housing Corporation – the authority responsible for social housing – over the scale of the development, after warning on Tuesday he would intervene if a deadlock wasn’t resolved within weeks.
