MEDIA RELEASE: Tenants' Union of NSW Celebrates Government Action to End ‘No Grounds’ Evictions
28/07/2024
The Tenants' Union of NSW applauds the government's announcement they are poised to end ‘no grounds’ evictions. This pivotal and long awaited reform ensures that all renters will be provided with a genuine reason if they are being evicted, delivering much-needed security and stability for people renting their homes across NSW.
This is a change the renters of NSW and housing policy experts have been seeking for decades. The government's commitment to progress these reforms has been met with widespread support from renters and the broader community. The Tenants' Union of NSW acknowledges the hard work and dedication of all who have campaigned tirelessly for these reforms, especially the organising and sharing of experiences by everyday renters.
"We are thrilled to see the government taking real action to address this problem," said Leo Patterson Ross, CEO of the Tenants' Union of NSW. "’No grounds evictions result in housing insecurity, financial strain, and emotional distress. Ending no grounds evictions is a critical step in ensuring that renters can feel secure in their homes without the constant fear of eviction."
"This is a win for renters' rights in NSW," continued Leo Patterson Ross. "The proposed reforms are reasonable, and they are fair. We look forward to working closely with the government to ensure the successful passage of this legislation and to support effective implementation of these essential reforms."
The Tenants' Union of NSW is dedicated to advocating for renters and will continue to monitor the progress of these important reforms.
