Partnering with Ngalaya First Nations lawyers

The Tenants' Union is proud to announce a new partnership with Ngalaya – the peak body for First Nations lawyers and law students in NSW.

Ngalaya represents over 750 First Nations lawyers and law students across what is now called New South Wales. They were founded in 1997 to advocate for increased representation within the legal profession and a more just legal system, and have been run by First Nations lawyers and law students ever since. In April 2019, Nagalya relaunched as an organisation to continue supporting the next generation of First Nations law-makers – people who will have an incredible impact on their communities, workplaces, and the profession as a whole.

The Tenants' Union and Ngalaya will be collaborating on a number of projects. The Tenants' Union will offer Ngalaya members tenancy law training at no cost, and facilitate access to the Tenants' Advice and Advocacy Services Network. Ngalaya has already begun assisting the Tenants' Union with recruitment of Aboriginal staff and will facilitate ongoing mentoring and support for the Tenants' Union Paralegal (Aboriginal) position.
